The Avondale Alliance for Racial Justice’s Second Annual Student Black History Month Art Contest is soliciting art submissions and sponsors.

We invite you to support our youth in sharing their artistic visions with us all. The art contest theme is "Black Empowerment through Wellness: Strengthening Mind, Body and Spirit.” Students are asked to reflect on the many sources of strength that have sustained Black Americans throughout history and today.

The student art contest is open to all elementary through high school students age 5 to 19 who live in Avondale Estates, GA or attend Avondale Elementary, DeKalb School of the Arts Elementary or High School, The Museum School, Druid Hills Middle School or High School, the Waldorf School and the Friends School. The winners will receive cash prizes to support their creativity.

Submission: Students or their parents can submit digital copies of their art online at https://tinyurl.com/AARJbhm22. The submission deadline is February 15, 2022. Submitted art will be displayed online at AA-RJ.org.

There will be an Awards reception with live music by singer Dia Scott at Finder's Keepers Furnishings (FKF) store on Saturday, March 5th from 2 to 3:30 pm. The winning children’s art will be on display for the week prior at FKF. For more information and to see last year’s inspiring art, go to AA-RJ.org.
