AARJ Black History Month Art Competition

The Avondale Alliance for Racial Justice is excited to announce its upcoming 5th Annual Black History Month Student Art Contest! The theme this year is Empowering Progress: The Legacy of Black Labor, Employment and HBCUs in Shaping America’s Future. 

Student winners receive cash prizes, certificates, a framed copy of their art and will be honored at an Art Awards Ceremony. The ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 1st from 2 to 4 pm at the Museum School, 923 Forrest Blvd, Decatur, GA 30030 (in the Forrest Hills neighborhood adjacent to Avondale.) Light refreshments and entertainment will be provided. Everyone is welcome to come see the art and celebrate the young artists. We enlist local artists to judge the submissions.

We encourage artists to begin working on their art by MLK day, January 20, 2025.  Students who live in Avondale Estates who attend any school and students who attend the following schools are encouraged to submit their art: Avondale Elementary School, Dekalb Arts Academy (formerly Dekalb Elementary School of the Arts,) DeKalb School of the Arts, The Museum School, Druid Hills Middle School, Druid Hills High School, the Friends School, and the Waldorf School. Please submit a digital photo of their original 2 dimensional art. Art can be paintings, drawings, digital art or photography. The original art should be formatted in a size compatible with standard framing of 8X10, 11x14 or 16x20. We accept high resolution files in JPG, PNG or PDF format.
